Stalking In Perthshire
Stalking prices for 2009-2010
All prices are subject to VAT @ 15%. To ensure stalking is booked a 50% deposit payment is required with the booking. Rifle hire is available @ £30 per day. We can also arrange Visitor’s Permits with the Firearms Department. If you wish to bring your own shotgun/rifle it is a legal requirement that it is kept in approved secure storage. We have such storage, approved annually, here at the hotel.
Red Stags: 1 July – 20 October
Prime time for Red stags is August/September/October. This year the prices have risen dramatically and demand is higher than ever before. Depending on the estate, the price per stag is from £400 - £550 which includes the outing fee. Stalker’s tips are extra, and paid directly by the client. Stag stalking ground varies from open hill ground to mountainous terrain, but it is definitely a sport which requires a high level of fitness. If you go out and do not get a shot, then only the outing fee is payable - £140. If you shoot and miss a beast, or shoot and wound a beast, then the full charge is made. However, if, after a miss, you go on to successfully shoot another beast, you would still only be charged for one beast.
Fallow Bucks: 1 August – 30 April
Fallow Bucks are from £350 - £400 and similar conditions apply as for Red Stags.
Sika:
We can get Sika shooting – please enquire and we can get prices
Roe Bucks: 1 April – 20 October
Bucks are not usually shot before early May as they can still be in velvet. The ideal time is June/July during the rut. We do not shoot from high seats, but mainly on open hill ground and some woodland. On the open hill the beasts are there all the time so day time stalking is fine but, in woodland, it is early morning and late evening. Roe Bucks are from £250 - £300 including the outing fee, based on good 4 – 6 pointers. If no shots are taken, then only the outing fee is payable - £100. The charge for a shoot and miss would be £150, and a shoot and wound would be the full buck price. Medal bucks are available and price is on application. Bronze from approx £550 - £600 and upwards from there.
Red Hinds: 21 October – 15 February
Prices range from £200 - £275. This is priced differently as it is a per day charge, not per beast, so there is no outing fee as such. If, however, nothing is shot, the price per day is payable (although this is unusual)! It is unlimited beasts but you could expect maybe 1 or 2 per gun. Hind stalking is good value for money and great fun – it is becoming increasingly popular and we would advise booking well in advance as last year we really struggled to get hinds in the Perthshire area late in the season.
Roe Doe: 21 October – 31 March
Don’t shoot them after the end of February as, by then, they are in calf and big.
